EUROPE: ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION GONE WILD, HIGHEST NUMBER OF ASYLUM APPLICANTS EVER

Friday, 21 February 2014: Illegal immigration out of control and growing. Illegal immigration to Europe has risen sharply, surprise surprise! This conclusion that can be understood from the latest EU statistics of the FRONTEX – European Border Agency, which refer to the third quarter of 2013. According to these statistics, more illegal border crossings have been registered than at the height of the Arab revolutions in 2011, and there have till now never been such a high number of asylum applications made in Europe, where better housing, health care, welfare payments and schooling can be found, especially in Western Europe. The majority of refugees arrived in Italy, most of them coming from North African, the Middle East and of course Syria, because of the civil war taking place there. According to the agency, there are no signs that this picture will change anytime soon on the short/medium-term. And we believe it never will whilst hard-line Islamic terrorists engulf the region in continuous wars. During the third quarter of 2013, some 42,618 illegal border crossings were registered in the EU, which was almost double as compared to the same quarter of the previous year, and four times more than at the beginning of 2013. The European Border Agency talks about a “dramatic increase”, which has taken place almost exclusively at the Italian coasts, mainly in Lampedusa and Sicily. 8,000 and 12,000 immigrants were registered there respectively. The bulk of them had arrived from Libya in boats, the use of “mother ships” having turned more and more common. Small boats are used to transport the immigrants to the shores from these ships. WEST: JANUARY 2014 SEES SURGE OF BOAT IMMIGRANTS ON ITALIAN SHORES

In January 2014, 2,156 illegal immigrants landed on the Italian coast: 10 times more than the first 30 days of 2013 when they were 217. Totally, last year, 42,925 migrants reached Italian shores: 325% more than in 2012. 3,818 of them were unaccompanied foreign minors. Sicily is the Italian Region which is affected by the phenomenon the most. With 37,886 migrants, 88% of the annual total. 14,753 of which only in Lampedusa. The main country of departure was Libya (27,314 migrants), followed by Egypt (9,215) and Turkey (2,077). While, as far as the country of origin is concerned (identified on the basis of the statements released at the time of landing), in the first place we find Syria: 11,307 migrants, a number increased over the previous year when the Syrians were just 582. Followed by Eritrea (9,834, more than 4 times than in 2012), Somalia (9,263) and Egypt (2,618).
